About the Artist
Joanna Martin studied Book Illustration and Graphic Design at the Edinburgh College of Art. After working as a graphic designer in London and Belfast, she now runs her own business in Killyleagh, located on the scenic shores of Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland—the largest sea inlet in the British Isles. Her stunning coastal surroundings inspire much of her work, with her love of nature fuelled by exploring the area by boat.
Joanna has a particular passion for birds, which she captures beautifully in her seabird lino cuts. She creates her prints at the Seacourt Print Workshop in Bangor, using the traditional linocut technique. This process involves carving designs into linoleum or Japanese vinyl to create relief surfaces that are inked and printed. By layering colours through repeated cutting and printing, Joanna produces striking, multi-dimensional works of art.
