About the Artist

I live and paint on the south coast of Devon, with my dog Coco. I have always drawn pictures and guess I just never stopped! I love exploring paint and colour, reflecting mood and light in the natural world around me, especially wildlife and flowers. About the Artist

Claire Henley has been a freelance illustrator, designer and artist for 30 years, having studied for a graphic design degree in London before starting her first job in a textile design studio.

Once freelance she began designing and illustrating anything from toys and greetings cards to books and giftware for clients worldwide.

In recent years she has concentrated on fine art rather than illustration, finding inspiration in the coast and the countryside of Britain and – despite living in the middle of the country – heads to the coast as often as she can! (Don’t we all!)

About Hedgerow pigeon folded letters

Inspired by origami, Pigeon, is a beautifully crafted combination of letter and envelope. A more satisfying alternative to the always-on, instant-gratification tools we all use to communicate with each other every day. Because even with all our hi-tech wizardry, nobody has managed to recreate the magic and joy of the hand-written letter.

Thanks to their miraculous homing instincts, Pigeons have a long and honourable track record in delivering messages. The ancient Greeks sent them out to broadcast the names of victorious athletes at the original Olympic Games. And Julius Caesar employed pigeon post during his conquest of Gaul. In recent centuries, of course – ever since 1660, when King Charles II established the Post Office – the poor old pigeon’s been somewhat edged out. We think it’s time to reintroduce Pigeon Post…

About the Artist

Asta Barrington lives in the picturesque city of Bath in southwest England. Her vibrant artwork is inspired by flea market discoveries including vintage printed ephemera, typography, and antique/folk textiles. She also loves drawing birds, flowers, and the myriad of colours and patterns found in nature. Her joyful hand-drawn patterns and illustrations are carefully composed from complex layers of lively colour, and evoke an older style of art but with contemporary overtones.
